Private Transfer from Kalkan to Çamyuva

This journey links two very different parts of the Turquoise Coast. Kalkan is a steep, whitewashed hillside town that tumbles down to a small yacht harbour, with bougainvillea over the lanes, candlelit rooftop terraces and villas scattered across the slopes above Kalamar Bay. Çamyuva lies in the Kemer district of Antalya province, where pine forest runs right down to a pebble shore and the Taurus Mountains rise straight behind the coast road. A private car joins the two places directly. You do not change buses in Fethiye or wait at a regional bus station with your suitcases.

The route is 104 kilometres long and the drive takes about 109 minutes in normal conditions. That is a long single leg by holiday standards, but it is also one of the most scenic coastal drives in the country. This page explains what to expect on the road, how pickup and drop-off work, what Çamyuva offers once you arrive, and how to plan a return trip, an early flight or a day out from your new base.

The drive east on the D400

The whole journey follows the D400, the coastal highway that threads the Turkish Riviera. It is a working road as well as a scenic one, so you will share it with local buses, fruit lorries in season and holiday traffic in summer. The sea is on your side for much of the way, and the mountains stand on the other.

Kalkan to Kaş

You leave Kalkan by climbing from the town to the main highway. The road then runs east along a cliff-edged stretch with deep blue water far below. Look out for the Kaputaş area, where a narrow cove of turquoise water sits at the foot of tall cliffs and a long flight of steps leads down to the sand. Many drivers slow here, and it makes a natural first photo stop. The bay of Kaş follows. It is a small harbour town, and on clear days the Greek island of Kastellorizo (Meis) lies close offshore.

Kaş to Demre and Finike

Beyond Kaş the road swings away from the water and back again across a landscape of rocky headlands, terraced hillsides and small farms. Demre is the next real town. It is known for the church of Saint Nicholas, the ancient city of Myra and its rock-cut tombs, and the greenhouse farms that fill the delta. From here the coast opens into a wide fertile plain, and the road runs on to Finike, a town surrounded by citrus orchards. Oranges are the local pride. In winter you will see stalls beside the road, and in spring the air smells of blossom.

Finike to Kumluca and the Olympos coast

East of Finike the road passes Kumluca, another agricultural town with more greenhouses than houses in places. After Kumluca the scenery changes. The highway climbs onto forested slopes, the sea drops below, and the road threads through a series of bends. You pass the turnings for Adrasan and for Çıralı and Olympos, both well known for their ancient ruins and their long beaches. Then comes Tekirova, the first of the Kemer-district resort villages. Çamyuva follows soon after, among the pines.

Typical and busy times

The quoted duration is 109 minutes. That figure assumes an ordinary day with normal flow on the D400. On a quiet morning in spring or autumn the road is relatively empty and the drive feels easy. In July and August the same road carries far more traffic, including coaches, camper vans and rental cars. Slow vehicles on the mountain bends can stretch the journey, and an extra stop for water or a photo adds to it. Heavy rain in winter can also slow the mountain sections.

Early morning departures usually give the smoothest run. Mid-afternoon in high summer is the busiest period, with the heat at its peak and families moving between resorts. If you can choose the time, leave Kalkan after breakfast but before the middle of the day. That way you arrive in Çamyuva in the afternoon, in time to settle in, swim and have dinner on the first evening. Your driver knows where the road slows and plans the stops around it.

Pickup in Kalkan

Kalkan is built on a steep hillside, and many of its streets are narrow, one-way or too steep for big vehicles. Villas sit on terraced slopes above the harbour. Some hotels sit on the main road, and others are reached by small lanes. Because of this, it helps to give your exact address or villa name when you book. Send a map pin if you have one.

On the day, the driver comes to your door or to the nearest point a car can reach. If your villa is at the end of a steep lane, the driver may ask you to meet at the road junction. Pack your bags the night before. A transfer of this length runs best when luggage is ready and the check-out is already done.

Tell us how many people travel and how many suitcases you have. Add golf bags, pushchairs and diving equipment to the list. This lets us send a vehicle with enough room, so no one is squeezed for two hours. Child seats can be requested in advance, which matters on a long drive like this one.

Arriving in Çamyuva

Çamyuva is a small coastal village, not a large town. Most hotels and villas lie close to the main road or on the lanes that run up and down the slope between the highway and the sea. The village is quiet, and the arrival is simple. The driver stops at your hotel entrance or villa gate, helps with luggage and makes sure you are at the right door before leaving.

A few practical points apply on arrival:

  • Hotel check-in is often in the afternoon, and many hotels will store bags if you arrive earlier. Check with your hotel before travelling if you leave Kalkan very early.
  • Some larger resort properties have long internal driveways and gated entrances. Giving the full hotel name helps the driver find the correct gate.
  • Villa guests should tell us who will meet them, and a local phone number helps if the key holder is not on site.
  • If the hotel is a short walk from the sea, the driver can usually take you right to the lobby rather than the beach path.

Understanding Çamyuva: areas and who they suit

Çamyuva is easy to understand once you know the layout. It lies south of Kemer centre, with Kiriş further north and Tekirova to the south. The village is compact, so most of it is walkable, and you choose a base mostly by how close you want to be to the sea, the forest and the other villages.

Beside the sea. Properties on the shore side suit guests who want to walk to the water in a few minutes. This is the best choice for families with small children and for guests who plan to spend most days on the beach. The shore is pebble rather than sand, so water shoes are a good idea.

On the forested slope. Properties set among the pines on the slope above the coast road offer shade, quiet nights and sea views from upper floors. They suit couples, walkers and anyone who likes cooler evenings. The trade-off is that you will drive or walk uphill to return from the shore.

Towards Tekirova. The southern edge of the village merges into the Tekirova area. It is closer to the ruins of Phaselis and the start of the Lycian Way. Hikers and history-minded guests like this side.

Towards Kiriş and Kemer. The northern edge is closer to Kiriş and then to Kemer centre. It suits guests who want shops, restaurants and the marina within an easy ride.

If you are not sure which side suits your plans, ask for a recommendation before booking. The transfer works the same way whichever you choose. We only need the name and address of the property.

The beach, the forest and the landmarks

Çamyuva is a place for simple pleasures. The beach is pebble, with clear water, and the pine forest comes down almost to the waterline, so shade is easy to find. The mountains behind give the village a dramatic backdrop at sunset, when the ridges turn orange and then purple. Early mornings are calm, and the water is often at its clearest then.

The surrounding district has some of the best-known sights on this stretch of coast.

  • Phaselis. This ancient Lycian port town lies close to Çamyuva, set among pines with three small harbours and a long colonnaded street. It is one of the most atmospheric ruin sites on the Riviera, and a swim in one of its sheltered bays is a favourite combination.
  • Olympos and Çıralı. To the south, these two places combine ruins, a forested valley and a long beach. They are also famous for the Chimaera, a place where natural flames burn from the rock. Many guests visit after dark for the full effect.
  • Tahtalı and the cable car. The mountain above Kemer is reached by a cable car, which carries visitors up to the summit. On a clear day the view covers the sea, the coastline and the mountains inland.
  • Göynük Canyon. This forested gorge north of Kemer is popular for walking and for cooling off in summer.
  • Kemer marina. The marina and old centre offer shops, restaurants and boat trips along the coast.

Food and evenings

Evenings in Çamyuva are relaxed. If you are coming from Kalkan, where dinner means a rooftop terrace and a wine list, you will find the pace here slower and simpler. Many guests stay at hotels that serve meals on site, and the village has small restaurants where you can order grilled fish, meat, fresh salads, mezes and flatbread cooked fresh.

For a livelier night, Kemer is a short ride away. The marina area has bars, restaurants and live music in season. Tekirova has its own set of restaurants, some of them in the forest. If you plan to eat out in the evening, ask your hotel about a taxi back, or arrange a transfer in advance. The coast road is not well lit in places, and walking back along it after dark is not advised.

Breakfast in Çamyuva often features tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, local cheese, honey and fresh bread. Seasonal fruit from the Antalya orchards is easy to find. Orange juice squeezed to order is a good reminder of the citrus country you passed through on the drive.

Families and children

The drive from Kalkan is long for small children, so a little planning goes a long way. Pack snacks, water and a favourite toy or tablet in a bag that stays within reach rather than in the boot. Choose a departure time that fits the children's routine. A midday nap can cover a good part of the drive if you leave at the right moment.

Child seats and boosters can be requested in advance. Tell us the ages and weights of the children when you book, so the right seat is fitted before you arrive. It is much easier to arrange this in advance than on the day.

You can also ask for a short break. Stops at Kaş, Demre or Finike give children time to walk around and use a toilet. A planned stop near a beach or a viewpoint turns part of the journey into a small adventure. Tell us beforehand that you want it, so the time is allowed for.

Once you are in Çamyuva, the calm sea and the shaded shore make family life simple. Many hotels in the area have children's pools and play areas. The pine forest gives shade for picnics. Older children can try boat trips from Kemer, while teenagers may enjoy the cable car or a visit to Phaselis.

Late-night and early flights

Antalya Airport lies north-east of Çamyuva, further along the same coast, and the drive to the airport takes time. If your flight leaves early in the morning, you will need to leave Çamyuva in the middle of the night. If you arrive late in the evening, your driver will meet you with a name board, and you can reach your hotel soon after landing.

Plan carefully when you have a flight on the same day as a long transfer. Do not set the connection too tightly. The D400 is a single main road, and a lorry breakdown or an accident can slow everything. If you travel to Çamyuva from Kalkan on the day of an international flight, allow a generous margin.

For late arrivals, tell your hotel that you will check in after midnight. Hotels in the area are used to this, but the reception may need a note in advance. If you arrive after a night drive, you will probably want to sleep. The village is quiet after dark, so you should find the place peaceful.

Returning to the airport

Many guests take the same road later in the holiday to catch a flight. If you fly from Antalya Airport, the return transfer from Çamyuva starts at your hotel door. The driver arrives at the agreed time, and the luggage goes straight into the vehicle.

When planning the return, work backwards from your flight time:

  1. Start with the flight departure time.
  2. Allow check-in time at the airport. Most airlines open check-in several hours before departure and close it well before take-off.
  3. Add the drive from Çamyuva to the terminal. Ask us for an estimate when you book, because the traffic in July and August is heavier than in spring.
  4. Add a buffer for traffic, stops and any delay at the hotel.

For early flights, book the pickup the evening before and set your alarm with a margin. For afternoon flights, you may have time for a last swim, but do not leave packing to the last minute. Pay your hotel bills and return any keys before the driver arrives.

Day trips from your Çamyuva base

If you stay for several days, Çamyuva makes a good base for day trips.

  • Phaselis and the coast. This is the closest option and works well for a half day.
  • Olympos, Çıralı and the Chimaera. Allow most of a day if you add a walk and a swim.
  • Kemer and the marina. A shorter outing for shopping, a boat trip or dinner.
  • Tahtalı cable car. Go in the morning when the air is clear, and take a light jacket for the summit.
  • Antalya old town. The old quarter, Kaleiçi, with its harbour, narrow streets and Roman gate, lies along the coast to the north-east. It is an easy day out by car.
  • Kekova and Demre. If you want to see the places you passed on the way, a boat trip to Kekova from Üçağız or a visit to Myra makes a good outing on another day.

A private driver can also be booked by the hour for these trips, or you can use the transfer service for each leg. Tell us what you plan, and we will suggest a sensible order.

Seasons

Spring (April to May). The air is mild, the mountains are green and the roads are quiet. The sea is still cool, but the days are long and walking is pleasant. This is a good time for the Lycian Way and for exploring ruins without the heat.

Summer (June to August). This is the high season. Days are hot and dry, the sea is warm and the beach is busy. The coast road carries the most traffic, so allow a margin on the 109-minute drive. Carry water and sun protection.

Autumn (September to October). The sea is still warm, the crowds thin out and the light is soft. Many regular visitors consider this the best time. Evenings begin to cool, so bring a light layer.

Winter (November to March). The coast is calm and many seasonal businesses close. Some rain falls, especially in the mountains, and the road can be slower in bad weather. The orange harvest around Finike is at its best, and the drive is pretty with snow on the high peaks.

Planning notes for the Kalkan to Çamyuva transfer

This is a long single-leg drive, so it pays to travel rested and to carry water, especially in July and August. Have your passports, booking confirmation and phone with you, not in the boot.

If your plans include a flight, check the airport you use. Antalya Airport serves Çamyuva and the Kemer district. For Kalkan, Dalaman Airport lies to the west and is the usual gateway for guests who stay there. So the Kalkan to Çamyuva leg is most often part of a longer trip, with one airport at the start of the holiday and another at the end. Tell us your plan, and we will help arrange each leg.
