Kundu to Dalaman Airport: the departure journey
Your holiday on the Kundu coast is ending, and one long day of travel stands between your sunbed and your seat on the plane. Kundu lies about 180 km from Dalaman Airport (DLM). The drive takes about 189 minutes in normal traffic, which is a little over three hours behind the wheel before any stops. This is not a quick airport run like the 18 km hop from Kundu to Antalya Airport. It is a proper coastal journey, and it works best when you plan it as the first part of your travel day rather than a small errand before check-in.
This page explains how a private departure transfer from Kundu to Dalaman works: when we collect you, what the road looks like, where you can stop, and how to reach the terminal calm and on time. It also covers the Kundu resort strip, because the day begins there and the hotel you leave from shapes the morning. And it looks at the Dalaman side of the coast, in case you are using this transfer to start a few more days of travel before your flight.
Why people fly home from Dalaman
Kundu sits right beside Antalya's own airport, so a departure from Dalaman needs a reason. The usual reasons are simple. Your airline or package operator may have placed your flight at Dalaman. You may have spent the first week of your trip around Fethiye, Ölüdeniz or Göcek and added a second week in a Kundu resort. Or you may be on a multi-stop itinerary that ends on the south-west coast. Whatever the reason, the transfer is a one-way journey from your hotel door in Kundu to the departures area at Dalaman.
If your plans are still open, compare the two airports before you book. Antalya Airport is about 18 km from Kundu, and a flight from there means a short ride. A flight from Dalaman means a long morning in the car. If your ticket already names Dalaman, this page is for you.
The drive: road and scenery
The route leaves the Kundu and Lara strip and heads west around Antalya city. From there it follows the coast road on the Mediterranean shore, with the Taurus Mountains rising to your right. You pass the Kemer coast and the town of Kumluca, then continue along the Lycian coast toward the south-west. Beyond Kumluca the route runs through the Finike and Demre area, then on to Kaş and Kalkan, before it turns toward Fethiye and Göcek and finally reaches Dalaman.
The scenery is the best reason to enjoy this day. On one side you have the sea, often a deep blue, with small bays and headlands. On the other side you have pine forest and limestone mountains. Between the resort towns the landscape shows orange groves, greenhouses and the ruins that dot this coast. The Taurus range follows you for most of the way. Sitting in a quiet private vehicle with a window seat is far better than the same road on a crowded coach.
Not every part of the road is straight. Parts of the route wind through the foothills and along the cliffs, and those sections reward an experienced driver. Our drivers know the road, the bends and the places where traffic slows down. You do not need to navigate, watch the clock or worry about a wrong turn.
The 189-minute duration is a driving figure for normal conditions. It does not include a rest stop, a breakfast break or a slow section behind a lorry. This is why we plan your pickup time with a buffer on top of the drive.
Typical and busy times on the road
The road is quietest early in the morning. A pickup before sunrise in summer means you travel while the day is still cool and the resort towns are asleep. You will see the coast light up as the sun rises, which is a pleasant way to leave.
Traffic builds as the day goes on. In the summer season, from late spring to autumn, the coast road carries holiday traffic, tour buses and local lorries. The slow sections are the towns along the way and the climbs through the foothills. Weekends and the middle of the day tend to be slower than early morning. A delay of 20 to 40 minutes is easy to absorb when we have built a buffer into your pickup time. It is much harder to absorb when you have left late.
In winter the road is quieter. Rain can slow the mountain sections, and the shorter days mean you may drive part of the journey in the dark. We take this into account when we set your pickup.
How we time your pickup
Timing is the main skill on this route. When you book, you give us your flight time and your terminal. We work backwards from the departure time.
The plan has four parts:
- The drive of about three hours.
- A rest stop for the family, a coffee or a toilet break.
- A buffer for traffic on the coast road.
- Time for check-in, bag drop and security at Dalaman.
For domestic flights we usually arrive at your door about 5.5 to 6 hours before departure. For international flights we usually arrive about 6 to 6.5 hours before departure. These are working figures, not rules. Your airline's check-in window, the season and the size of your group can all move them.
If your flight time changes, message us. We track the flight and we adjust the pickup. A flight that moves earlier means an earlier start. A flight that moves later gives you more time at the hotel. This flexibility is a normal part of this route.
A practical note: please do not plan a late checkout and a leisurely lunch before this transfer. Treat the departure day as a travel day. Pack the night before and go straight to the car.
Your pickup in Kundu
Kundu is a resort corridor, not a town. There is no central square and no single hotel district. Large resorts sit one after another along a wide sandy beach, with Turkish red pine forest behind them. The properties are spread out, and the distance between the main gate and the front entrance can be large.
Our drivers serve the main resorts on this strip. We regularly work with Titanic Beach Lara, Delphin Imperial, Delphin Palace, Nirvana Cosmopolitan and Royal Holiday Palace. Each property has its own layout. Some have a lobby set back from the road behind gardens. Some have a pickup point that is nowhere near the beachfront entrance you would expect. Our drivers know where to stop for each hotel, so you do not have to search for the car with your bags.
Settle your extras account the evening before. Ask reception for an early breakfast box if you leave before the restaurant opens. Bring your bags to the lobby at the agreed time.
Your driver waits at the agreed point and loads your bags. The vehicle is clean, spacious and air-conditioned. From that moment you are on your way, door to door, with no other hotels to visit.
Why a private transfer suits a three-hour road
Over this distance the choice of transport matters. A shared shuttle stops at other hotels and adds waiting time, and on a journey that is already long, extra stops can turn three hours into five. A street taxi can be hard to find at dawn and may leave you uncertain about the cost of a long drive. A public bus means changes and a long wait with luggage.
A private transfer removes those problems. The vehicle is yours alone. You leave when you are ready. You stop when your family needs a break. You arrive at the departures area at Dalaman Airport. Child and infant seats are free on request: tell us the age of your child when you book and the right seat will be fitted in the vehicle. Our drivers speak English and Turkish.
Rest stops, food and comfort on the way
A three-hour drive is easier with a break in the middle. We suggest one stop, and your driver will help you choose a good place. The coast road has roadside restaurants, petrol stations with cafés and viewpoints over the sea. A stop of 15 to 20 minutes is usually enough for a coffee, a toilet break and a stretch.
For families the break matters. Small children get restless after the first hour. Teenagers want a drink. Grandparents appreciate a place to stand and walk. Tell the driver at the start that you would like a stop, and he will plan it around the quietest part of the road.
Bring water and snacks. If anyone in your group is prone to travel sickness, say so when you book and sit at the front. The winding foothill sections are the ones to watch.
Arrival at Dalaman Airport
Dalaman Airport lies near Dalaman town, between Fethiye and Marmaris on the south-west coast. It serves holidaymakers from Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, Göcek, Dalyan and Marmaris, as well as visitors who have arrived from the Antalya side.
Your driver takes you directly to the departures area of your terminal. You get out at the entrance, collect your bags and walk in. Because we have planned the buffer, you have time for check-in, bag drop, passport control and security without rushing. Have your passport and boarding pass ready and follow the airline signs.
If your flight is international, allow for the queue at passport control. In the busy summer months the departure halls fill up in the morning and in the evening. Arriving at the time we suggest means you meet those queues with time to spare.
The Kundu coast: who it suits
If you are reading this before your trip, a short guide to Kundu may help you plan. The area suits several kinds of traveller.
Families. Kundu is family-resort country. The big all-inclusive hotels have water parks, several pools, evening shows and children's clubs. Many families never leave the hotel grounds, and that is a perfectly good way to enjoy a holiday. The beach is wide and sandy, and the pine forest behind it gives some shade and a sense of space.
Couples. Couples who want a long beach day and a quiet dinner will find both inside the larger resorts. The strip feels less crowded than the area closer to the city.
Groups of friends. Groups appreciate the entertainment, the bars and the all-inclusive format. We run larger vehicles for groups, so everyone travels together in one car instead of splitting into separate taxis.
Travellers who want the city. Kundu is close to Antalya, so you can combine a resort stay with day trips. Antalya's old town, waterfalls and ancient sites are all an easy taxi ride away.
Beaches, old town and landmarks near Kundu
Before your departure day, there are real places worth a visit within a short ride of the resorts:
- Lower Düden Waterfalls. Fresh water falls straight into the sea near Lara. It is a quick ride from Kundu and a good place for photos, especially toward sunset.
- Antalya Aquarium. One of the longest tunnel aquariums in the world, and a strong choice for families. It is roughly 20 to 25 minutes by taxi from Kundu.
- Kaleiçi and the harbour. The old town of Antalya has cobbled lanes, Hadrian's Gate, Ottoman houses and the fluted minaret. It is about half an hour from Kundu.
- Aspendos. One of the best-preserved Roman theatres anywhere, still used for performances. It is further out, around 40 to 45 minutes, and makes an easy day trip.
- Perge. An ancient city of colonnaded streets and stadium ruins, a good companion to Aspendos on the same day.
- TerraCity and Mall of Antalya. The two go-to malls when you want shopping or a meal away from the hotel buffet.
We run these as straightforward taxi trips, one way or round trip with waiting time.
Food and evenings in Kundu
Most guests eat inside the resorts. The all-inclusive hotels offer buffet restaurants, themed à la carte venues and snack bars on the beach. Evenings in Kundu revolve around the hotel: shows, music, a walk along the beach and late drinks at the pool bar.
If you want a change, Antalya's old town has harbour-side restaurants and small cafés in the lanes of Kaleiçi. The malls offer restaurants for a meal outside the hotel.
On your last evening, eat well and sleep early. A pickup that begins before dawn is much easier when you have not stayed up late. Ask reception for an early breakfast or a packed breakfast, and keep your documents by the door.
Travelling with children and older guests
A three-hour journey asks more of children and older guests.
- Request the child or infant seat when you book. It is free.
- Keep a small bag within reach with water, snacks and a favourite toy.
- Ask for a stop if the children are restless.
- Tell us if anyone has limited mobility, so the driver can help with bags.
- Keep medication in hand luggage, not in the boot.
A private vehicle makes these needs easy to meet. You set the pace, and no one else on a shared bus has to wait for you.
Early and late flights
Flights from Dalaman leave at all hours. The timing of your flight changes how the day works.
Early-morning flights. If your flight leaves in the morning, you will travel through the night or the small hours. The road is empty and the drive can be fast. Tell us the flight time and we will set a pickup time that fits, and we will warn you if the plan means leaving the hotel in the middle of the night. If you have a very early flight, consider sleeping a night near Dalaman and taking the transfer the day before. That is a good option if you want a calmer final evening.
Midday flights. A midday flight means a very early pickup. You will leave the hotel at dawn, and breakfast will be on the road.
Afternoon and evening flights. These are the easiest. You can have breakfast at the hotel, check out, and leave in the morning. Even so, remember the 5.5 to 6 hours for domestic flights and 6 to 6.5 hours for international flights. Do not plan a late checkout.
Night flights. A late flight gives you a long day. Leave Kundu in the afternoon, stop for dinner on the coast, and arrive at Dalaman in the evening.
If your flight is delayed or moved, message us. We track your flight and update the plan.
Make a day of it: stops between Kundu and Dalaman
Because the route is long, some guests choose to turn the journey into a sightseeing day. If you have time before an evening flight, you can add a stop along the Lycian coast. Our guests often explore these places:
- Ölüdeniz. The world-famous Blue Lagoon and a paradise for paragliders, close to Fethiye and not far from Dalaman Airport.
- Saklıkent Gorge. A deep, cool canyon with icy water running through it.
- Patara. Turkey's longest beach and a vast ancient Lycian city.
- Pamukkale. Gleaming white travertine terraces and the ancient city of Hierapolis. This is a large detour from the coast road, so plan it as a separate trip.
Tell us your wish when you book. A stop of one or two hours at a beach or an ancient site is possible if your flight leaves late in the evening, and we can quote for the extra time. Do not add a stop to a morning or early-afternoon flight, because the buffer for check-in is more valuable than the sightseeing.
The return trip and the other direction
This page is about the journey from Kundu to Dalaman. If you also need a transfer on the way in, tell us.

If your flight is delayed, we track it and the driver waits. Most flights into Antalya land late at night or in the small hours, so a night arrival is standard for us.
Seasons on the Kundu to Dalaman road
Spring. April and May are mild and green. The road is quieter, the sea is cooler and the hills are full of wildflowers. The sea season on this coast runs from April to November.
Summer. July and August bring heat of 35°C or more and the busiest roads. Start early to avoid the hottest hours, drink plenty of water and use the air-conditioned vehicle. The coast road is slower on summer weekends.
Autumn. September and October stay warm, with a calmer road and a still-warm sea. This is a very pleasant time to drive the coast.
Winter. Winters are mild, with daytime temperatures around 15°C. Rain can affect the mountain sections and daylight is short. We take the weather and the light into account when setting the pickup time.
