Fethiye, with its lively fish market and one of the trailheads of the Lycian Way, is around 50-55 minutes; from there it's a short hop further to Ölüdeniz and its famous Blue Lagoon, the landing spot for paragliders drifting down from Babadağ mountain, at roughly 60-65 minutes. Saklıkent Gorge, with its cold running water, is a similar distance and a popular escape from the midsummer heat. Closer to home, the town of Ortaca is about 15 minutes away for its weekly market and everyday errands.

A little further along the Dalyan road, Köyceğiz Lake and the Sultaniye thermal springs on its shore are worth knowing about too — many of the boat trips that leave Dalyan wind through the lake's reed beds and channels before reaching İztuzu. The sea around Sarıgerme stays warm enough to swim from around June to October; July and August are the busiest months, but the sheer length of the beach means it rarely feels as packed as some other resorts on this coast.
