Belek→Myra

If you're staying at one of the Belek golf resorts or a villa in Kadriye and you want to see the ancient city of Myra at Demre, the honest first question is simply how to get there. Here's the plain answer. This is a long-ish coastal run, roughly 200 kilometres, heading west past Antalya and down the Mediterranean shoreline. Realistic drive time is 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours, a mix of motorway and coast road. Doing it by dolmuş eats a whole day in bus stations; with a private transfer we collect you at your hotel door and drop you right at the rock tombs and St Nicholas Church.

Leaving Belek we join the Antalya ring road briefly, dip through Kepez toward Konyaaltı, and then the sea turns west with us. You'll pass the famous greenhouse plains of Kumluca and the citrus groves of Finike — that unmistakable orange-blossom scent in spring. Our local driver knows this road by heart: where the sea view opens up, where a good coffee stop is, how the day flows.

When you reach Demre, three things await. The dramatic Myra rock tombs carved into the cliff face and the Roman theatre. The Church of St Nicholas, resting place of the real Santa Claus. And, reached by boat from the shore, the Kekova sunken city with the castle at Simena (Kaleköy). If you like, we drop you at Çayağzı harbour and pick you back up after your boat tour.

• The dolmuş is a chore: there's no direct minibus from Belek to Demre. You'd change at Antalya's bus station, then Kumluca or Finike, then a final Demre minibus. Three vehicles with your luggage, and half your holiday spent at bus terminals.

Mostly families and couples planning Demre as a full-day sightseeing trip. You set off after a relaxed breakfast, tour Myra and the church before noon, take a Kekova boat in the afternoon, and roll back into Belek by evening. It's a long day, but in a private car it's easy rather than exhausting. We also carry guests changing base mid-holiday, wanting a few nights over on the Demre–Kaş side.
