Explore the charming Kaleiçi old town, visit Düden and Kurşunlu waterfalls, see Hadrian's Gate, the Clock Tower, and enjoy panoramic views from the old harbor marina. Professional English-speaking guide. Your driver collects you from the hotel, so there is no parking to worry about in the narrow lanes of the old town. Expect a fair amount of walking on uneven stone, a little spray at the falls and several natural photo stops, which makes it a good first day for anyone new to the city. Mornings are cooler and the harbour quieter; late afternoon gives warmer light over the cliffs.

The ground truth
3 Myra hotels sit in our pickup index, so your driver gets the entrance, not the district.
About 140 kilometres west of Antalya, right in the middle of the modern town of Demre, stands one of ancient Lycia's six leading cities: Myra. It's the place where rock-cut tombs stare down from a cliff face, where a Roman theatre sits almost intact at the foot of that cliff, and where the historical Saint Nicholas — the man behind Santa Claus — served as bishop in the 4th century. Demre itself is a working agricultural town; endless greenhouses ("seralar") cover the plain, growing tomatoes that get shipped across Turkey and Europe. Arriving in Myra, you go straight from a sea of plastic-roofed greenhouses to two-thousand-year-old tombs cut into rock — that contrast is part of what makes the place memorable.
Demre sits a few kilometres inland on a fertile plain rather than right on the coast, but the beach, the ancient harbour, and boat trips are all a short taxi ride away. Kaş lies to the west, Finike to the east, and Kekova just off the coast — Myra sits at the quiet, authentic centre of that triangle.
Myra's best-known image is its cliffside necropolis: dozens of Lycian tombs carved to resemble house façades, some still showing faint relief carvings. Directly below is one of the region's best-preserved Roman theatres, its stage building partly standing and most of the seating rows intact. It's a short taxi ride from most hotels in Demre — usually fifteen to twenty minutes, less if you're staying near the town centre — with parking right at the entrance. Early morning or late afternoon light is the best time to visit, especially in summer heat.
The reason Myra is known worldwide sits a few minutes from the ancient theatre: the Church of Saint Nicholas, built where the historical bishop who inspired Santa Claus lived, served, and was buried. Traces of Byzantine frescoes are still visible inside. Because it's so close to the theatre and tombs, most visitors combine all three sites in a single taxi loop.
Myra's ancient port, Andriake, lies about 5 kilometres from the town centre. Emperor Hadrian's enormous granary there now houses the Lycian Civilisations Museum, well worth the stop for context on the wider region. Right beside it, where the river meets the sea, is Çayağzı Beach — quiet, uncrowded, with the Beydağları mountains as a backdrop. Loggerhead turtles nest along this shoreline in summer, so evening beach visits are worth doing respectfully and with lights kept low.
Myra sits right in the middle of the richest stretch of the Lycian coast. Boats from Üçağız and Kaleköy — about twenty to twenty-five minutes away by taxi — run out to the sunken city of Kekova and the castle at Simena. Head west around forty-five minutes and you reach Kaş, known for diving and its laid-back cafés; fifteen minutes east brings you to Finike and its marina. A branch of the Lycian Way footpath also runs through the area, which is a real draw for hikers.
Antalya Airport to Myra/Demre is roughly 140 kilometres, and the drive usually takes two to two and a half hours depending on traffic along the coastal road. We're a local family-run company that drives this route daily — we meet you at arrivals with your name, help with luggage, and take you straight to your hotel door. The price is fixed in advance at a fixed fare confirmed at booking, whatever the traffic does, and it doesn't change for a late-night arrival. Tell us your flight number and we'll track delays and adjust the pickup time automatically.
April through November is the best window to visit; summers are hot but sea temperatures are at their best. Public transport around Demre is limited, so most visitors rely on taxis or rental cars — for short hops between the ruins, harbour, and beach, a taxi is usually the more practical choice. Entry to the Myra ruins and the Church of Saint Nicholas both require separate tickets, and the Museum Pass is accepted at both.
