Few coastal towns in Turkey put you this close to genuinely spectacular ancient sites. Limyra, with its cliffside Lycian rock tombs and Roman theatre, is barely 15 minutes away by taxi. Head inland on the Elmalı road and you reach Arykanda, terraced dramatically up a mountainside near the village of Arif - one of Lycia's most scenic ruins, with baths, a stadium, and a theatre built into the slope; allow around 40 minutes by taxi. West of Finike, the town of Demre holds ancient Myra, famous for its rock-cut tombs and for the Church of St Nicholas - yes, the historical figure behind Santa Claus - plus the harbour site of Andriake and its Museum of Lycian Civilisations; that's about 35-40 minutes away. North through Kumluca, the quiet cove village of Adrasan makes a good half-day escape, and southeast toward Üçağız we regularly run guests out for the boat trips over the sunken city of Kekova, roughly an hour's drive.
