Private Transfer from Kemer to Antalya City Center

The run from Kemer to the middle of Antalya covers 34 km and takes about 36 minutes in normal traffic. It is one of the prettiest short drives on the Turkish Riviera. The road leaves the pine-covered foothills of the Taurus Mountains, follows the sea for a while and then drops into a large, busy city with Roman walls, Ottoman houses and a harbour that is still in use. With a private car from Turkey Transfer you do not need to think about any of it. Your driver collects you from the hotel door in Kemer and takes you to the door you choose in Antalya.

People make this trip for many reasons. Some want a day in a real Turkish city after a week at the resort. Some have a medical or dental appointment. Some are catching an intercity bus or meeting friends who stay on the other side of the bay. Whatever the reason, this page explains what the drive is like, where in Antalya you may want to be dropped, and how to plan the day so the return to Kemer is easy.

The Drive: D400 Between Mountains and Sea

You leave Kemer from the marina area or from your own hotel in one of the neighbourhoods around it, and you join the D400 coastal highway heading toward Antalya. The road runs in the narrow strip between the Beydaglari range and the Mediterranean. On one side the slopes are covered with pine. On the other side the sea appears between the cliffs and the buildings, bright blue on a clear morning.

On the way you pass the turn-offs for Goynuk and Beldibi, two of the beach districts that people loosely include under the name Kemer. After them the highway opens out, the mountains step back, and the land becomes flatter and more built up as you approach the city. The final part of the drive is a long approach into the western side of Antalya, and this is where you first notice the traffic.

The journey takes around 36 minutes for the 34 km when the road is moving normally. That is the number to use for early mornings, mid-mornings and most of the evening. The slow part is almost always the last stretch. On summer afternoons the approach near Konyaalti and the western city limits can add ten or fifteen minutes. If you have an appointment at a fixed time, add that margin and you will arrive calm rather than rushed.

There is one main road on this coast, so a problem on the D400 affects everybody. A breakdown or a small accident can slow the whole flow for a while. Your driver watches the road ahead and chooses the lane and the exit that suit the conditions. The driver also knows the quieter ways through the city streets once you leave the highway.

Typical Times and Busy Times

Mornings heading into Antalya are the easiest. Most holidaymakers are still at breakfast, and the road is mostly used by delivery vehicles and local traffic. If you want to see Kaleici before the heat builds, a departure from Kemer around the middle of the morning gives you a comfortable drive and a cooler first walk.

Midday is usually fine on the way in. The weight of traffic shifts in the afternoon, when day-trippers return from the city and from beaches, and when boat trips and excursions end. The direction from Antalya back toward Kemer in the early evening is the busiest part of the day on this road. If you can start the return before the rush or after it, the drive stays close to the normal 36 minutes. If you start in the middle of it, expect a slower trip and enjoy the view of the sunset over the mountains.

Arrival and Drop-Off in Antalya

Antalya City Center is not a single point. It covers several areas that feel very different, so tell us exactly where you want to go when you book. Good drop-off choices include:

  • The Kaleici side. The old town is mostly pedestrian and the lanes are narrow. A car cannot enter most of it. Ask to be dropped near Hadrian's Gate or near the marina side, then walk in. This is also the simplest place for a driver to wait or to return and collect you.
  • The harbour and the Karaalioglu Park area. If you plan to walk along the cliff edge, look at the sea from the viewpoints and finish with a meal near the harbour, this is the natural starting point.
  • Konyaalti. This is the long beach district on the west side of the city. It is the first part of Antalya you reach from Kemer, so it is also the shortest drive if your hotel or apartment is there.
  • Lara. This area lies on the east side of the centre. It has large hotels, a wide beach and shopping. The drive takes you across the city, so allow some extra time near the busiest roads.
  • The bus terminal and other transport points. If you continue by intercity bus, the driver can take you straight to the terminal building and help with bags to the entrance.
  • Hospitals, clinics and dental offices. Many of them are in the central and eastern districts. Give your driver the name of the building and the street. A driver who knows the exact entrance saves you a long walk in the heat.

Please share the address or a map pin in advance. Antalya has many streets with similar names, and a good pin removes all doubt. If your destination is inside a pedestrian zone, the driver will tell you the nearest point reached by road and explain the short walk that remains.

Which Part of Antalya Suits Which Traveller

If you have only one day, you do not need to cover the whole city. It is better to choose one or two areas and enjoy them.

First-time visitors who want history should begin at Kaleici. The old town is a maze of Ottoman houses, small hotels, craft shops and courtyard cafes. Hadrian's Gate, the Yivli Minaret and the old harbour are all within walking distance of each other. This area is best in the morning and again in the evening, when the heat falls and the lanes fill with light.

Beach lovers often prefer Konyaalti. The beach is long, the mountains stand behind it, and the view toward the Beydaglari range is one of the best in the city. It is a good choice for a swim and a relaxed lunch, particularly if you want a beach that feels like a city beach rather than a resort strip.

Shoppers and people who like modern city life will enjoy the wider centre, with its main streets, the bazaar area and the shopping centres that locals use. The bazaar is a place to look, bargain gently and drink tea. The Antalya Museum is a better stop if you like objects from the Roman and earlier periods, and it gives shade and quiet in the middle of a hot day.

Families with children do well at the parks and the harbour. Karaalioglu Park has open grass, shade and sea views. A short ride on the old tram that runs along the main street can be a small adventure for younger children. Keep the schedule light: a morning walk, lunch in a shaded place, a rest, and a quiet return.

Travellers on medical or business trips usually have a set address and a set time. For them the main advantage of a private car is predictability. The driver arrives at the hotel at the agreed time, uses the 36 minute figure with a safe margin, and lets you walk in to your appointment without hurrying.

Beaches, Old Town and Landmarks

Antalya sits on a high limestone shelf above the sea, and the city's edge is cut by cliffs. This gives the coast a different shape from Kemer, where the mountains come right to the water. In the city, the beaches are wide and open, and the old harbour sits in a natural bowl beneath the cliffs.

Kaleici is the heart of any visit. The walls and gates are a record of the many peoples who ruled the city, and Hadrian's Gate is the best known of them. The harbour at the foot of the old town is small and lively. Boats leave from it for short sea trips, and the terraces around it are a good place to sit as the evening comes.

Further along the cliff top you reach the park and the viewpoints, where the sea, the harbour and the Taurus Mountains appear together. On a clear day the view of the snow-capped peaks in the cooler months is a pleasant surprise for visitors who expect only sun and sand.

The waterfalls at Duden are another well-known stop in the city. They fall toward the sea, and the park around them is a cool place to walk in summer. Because they lie on the eastern side of the centre, they work best when you combine them with a Lara visit, not with a Kaleici day.

Food and Evenings

Antalya is a good place to eat in the evening, and the choice is wider than at a resort. In Kaleici you will find small restaurants in restored houses and courtyards, many with a view over the harbour. The old town is at its best after the sun goes down, when the stone lanes are lit and the temperature is kind. You can eat grilled fish, meze and Turkish dishes from the region, or simply sit with tea and look at the sea.

If you plan to stay for dinner, tell your driver in advance so the return can be set for a time that suits you. Many guests like to leave around the time when the evening traffic has eased. Others prefer to eat early and return before dark. Both choices work. The key point is to decide before you start, so the driver knows whether to wait nearby or to come back at a set time.

Families and Children

Families with children often use this route because it gives them a break from the resort. The drive of about 36 minutes is short enough for most children, and the coast gives them something to look at. Child seats are available on request, so mention the age and number of children when you book. This lets the driver prepare the right seats before the journey starts.

Plan the day around the heat in summer. The cooler hours are the early morning and the late afternoon. A good pattern is to arrive in the city in the morning, visit the old town while the shade is still strong, eat lunch indoors or under trees, rest, and then walk on the cliff-top park or near the harbour before returning.

Late Evenings, Early Starts and Airport Journeys

Many guests ask what happens when the day runs late. A dinner in the old harbour can easily continue into the night, and the drive back to Kemer after dark is quiet and smooth. The road has less traffic late in the evening, and the sea and mountains are dark shapes beside you. Tell us the time you think you will finish, and we can agree the pickup point and the time with you. If the plan changes, a short message is enough to move the pickup.

Early starts work too. If you need to be in the city at the start of a day, for a morning appointment or an early bus, the driver can collect you at your hotel at the time that suits the journey. The road is clear at that hour and the drive stays close to the normal 36 minutes.

If your real destination is Antalya Airport (AYT) and not the city centre, it is a different journey. Kemer to the airport is about 55 km, almost all on the D400 coast road, and the trip takes roughly 50 to 70 minutes depending on traffic. It can take longer on summer evenings, when the road passes through Antalya city. For a flight, always add a buffer. The coast has one main road, so an incident can slow everything, and the check-in desk will not wait for a scenic view. We time the pickup around your flight, not the other way around. If you plan a morning in the city before a flight, tell us, and we can plan the stop and the final drive together.

Returning to Kemer

For the return to Kemer, you have three simple choices.

  1. A set time. You choose a time to be collected, and the driver is waiting at the agreed place. This works best when you have a dinner booking, a ticket or an appointment that ends at a known hour.
  2. A flexible time. You tell the driver roughly when you expect to finish and send a short message when you are ready. This is good for a relaxed day of walking and shopping.
  3. A one-way trip. You make your own way back later, for example by moving on to another hotel or by meeting friends. In that case you only book the outward journey.

For the best return, avoid the busiest part of the early evening if you can. A short walk by the water or a coffee before you leave often costs less time than sitting in a slow line of cars on the D400. If you do travel in the busy hour, the added ten or fifteen minutes in Antalya will be the main change, because the rest of the road usually flows well.

When you arrive in Kemer, your driver can take you to the hotel entrance, the marina area or the villa gate. Kemer's neighbourhoods are spread along the coast, so give the exact name of your accommodation or send a pin. Hotels in places such as Goynuk and Kiris are known to our drivers, which makes the last few minutes simple.

Day Trips Around Antalya and Kemer

Antalya is a base for many excursions, and some of them combine well with this transfer.

  • Perge. An ancient city a short drive east of the centre, with a long colonnaded street and a stadium. It suits travellers who like history in a quieter setting.
  • Aspendos. The Roman theatre here is one of the best preserved in the region, and it is a classic reason to leave the coast for half a day.
  • Duden Waterfalls. A shorter outing inside the city area, good for a cool break in summer.
  • Tahtali Cable Car. On the Kemer side of the journey, the Olympos cable car climbs from near sea level to almost 2,365 metres in about ten minutes. On a clear day the view over the bay and the mountains behind it is superb. It is roughly a 30 minute taxi ride from central Kemer, so it fits a half day easily.
  • Phaselis. An ancient port city south of Kemer, with three small bays and columns among the pine trees. It is one of the most atmospheric ruins on this coast.
  • Olympos and Cirali. Further along the coast, with the Chimaera flames (Yanartas) burning naturally from the rock, a popular evening walk.
  • Yoruk Park. North of Kemer, a good half-day outing for zip-lining and forest walks.

A private car is a flexible way to link these places. You can ask the driver to drop you in Antalya, spend the morning there, and return to Kemer by a different route or at a different time. If you want a longer outing with several stops, tell us when you book, and we can arrange a dedicated sightseeing transfer.

Seasons on This Coast

The Antalya region has a Mediterranean climate with a very long sunny season. Summers are hot, often above 35°C, and winters are mild. The sea season runs from April to November, so you can swim comfortably for most of that period.

In summer, the city is hot in the middle of the day. The best plan is to see the old town early or late and to rest during the strongest heat. The road is busy, so keep to the timing advice above. The air-conditioned car is a real benefit, since you step from a cool hotel to a cool vehicle to a cool museum or restaurant.

In spring and autumn, the weather is warm without being harsh. Walking in Kaleici is easy all day, the parks are green, and the roads are lighter. Many people think these are the best months for a city visit combined with a beach stay.

In winter, Antalya is mild compared with much of Europe. It is a good time for the museum, the old town and the bazaar. The mountains behind the coast can carry snow while the city stays comfortable, and the clear air gives some of the sharpest views of the year. The beaches are quiet, and the roads between Kemer and the city are almost free of holiday traffic.

Why Book a Private Transfer for This Route

On a route of only 34 km you may wonder if a private car is needed. The answer depends on how you like to travel. Local taxis use a meter, and shared minibuses make several stops along the coast. A private transfer gives you a single, simple plan: your driver is at your hotel at the time you choose, the car is for your group only, and the price is shown when you book. You do not have to explain the address, count change or carry bags through a crowded bus stop.

Your driver meets you at your hotel or villa in Kemer, helps with luggage and takes the most direct route in a clean, air-conditioned car. Child seats are available on request. For a return day trip, the driver can wait or collect you at an agreed time. If your plans change, tell us as early as you can so we can adjust the pickup.

Book the night before when you can. This gives us time to confirm the driver and to note the exact pickup point and drop-off address. If you want to explore Kaleici on foot, mention it, and we will choose a drop-off point that is practical for the narrow streets.

How long does the Kemer to Antalya City Center transfer take?

About 36 minutes for the 34 km in normal traffic. On busy summer afternoons, allow another ten or fifteen minutes near Konyaalti and the western approaches to the city.

Where should I ask to be dropped in Antalya?

It depends on your plan. For the old town, ask for the Hadrian's Gate or marina side, because most of Kaleici is closed to cars. For a beach day, Konyaalti is the closest part of the city. For an appointment, give the exact address or a map pin.

Can the driver wait and bring me back to Kemer?

Yes. Many guests book a return trip with a few hours in the city. Tell us your plan when you book, and we will arrange the wait or a set pickup time.
