The town has grown around family-run pensions, boutique hotels and beach clubs rather than big resort chains, which gives it a slower, more neighbourhood feel than busier parts of the peninsula.

Locally, Bitez splits into two moods. Along the coast, Bitez Yalısı is the seafront strip — a pedestrian promenade backed by beach clubs, fish restaurants and small hotels, walkable end to end in about twenty minutes. Climb just a few streets inland and you're in the older village, among citrus orchards and far fewer tourists. Neither side is as built up as Bodrum centre or Gümbet, which is exactly why travellers who already know the peninsula tend to pick Bitez on a repeat visit.

Bitez Bay is shallow, calm and reliably breezy, which is why it has been one of the peninsula's go-to windsurfing and stand-up-paddle spots since the 1980s — the schools along the beach cater to complete beginners as much as seasoned riders. The same gentle water makes it an easy, low-drama beach for families with young children and for travellers who find Bodrum's livelier beaches a bit much. In the evening, the seafront leans towards long dinners at fish restaurants and relaxed cocktail bars rather than nightclubs — Bitez's idea of a good night out is a quieter one.

Bitez's real advantage is its position: almost everywhere on the western half of the peninsula is a short taxi ride away. Gümbet, with its beach bars and nightlife, is about 10 minutes along the coast road. Bodrum town — and with it Bodrum Castle (the Castle of St. Peter, home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology), the marina, the old bazaar and the amphitheatre on the hillside above — is roughly 15–20 minutes by taxi. Many guests also book a taxi from Bitez to Ortakent and the fish restaurants around Kargı Bay, or west to Gümüşlük, the old fishing harbour famous for its sunsets and seafood, about 30–35 minutes away. Yalıkavak's upscale marina is a similar distance in the other direction. If you'd rather go by sea, small boats run from Bitez and Bodrum out to Karaada (Black Island) for a swim and the mud baths. None of this needs a rental car — a taxi to any of these from your hotel is simple to arrange, and we're glad to quote a return trip as well as a one-way.
