Everything you need to know about Patara to Belek
Private Transfer from Patara to Belek
Patara and Belek sit at opposite ends of Turkey's Mediterranean holiday map. Patara is a farming village called Gelemiş, with ancient Lycian stones and roughly 18 kilometres of protected dunes. Belek is the Antalya coast's golf capital, a belt of large resorts behind a long sandy shore. Between them lie 169 km of road and about 178 minutes of driving, which is just under three hours without stops.
A private transfer turns that distance into one calm ride. Your driver from Turkey Transfer collects you at your pension or hotel in Patara. You stay in the same vehicle until you reach the reception of your resort in Belek. You change nothing, carry nothing across a bus station and wait for nothing.
This guide explains what the drive looks like, when to leave and what to expect on arrival. It also covers what to do in Belek once you are there.
Why a Private Car Suits This Route
Patara is not on a main tourist corridor. There is no direct bus from Patara to Belek. Public transport means several changes, usually through Fethiye or Antalya, and each change adds waiting time. With suitcases, golf bags or small children, that becomes a very long day.
A private car removes those changes. The journey starts at your door and ends at your resort. The driver chooses the pace, the stops and the road.
There are three more reasons this route suits a private car:
- The pick-up point is awkward for large vehicles. The last stretch into Gelemiş village is narrow. A local driver knows where to stop and helps with bags if your pension is a short walk from the parking place.
- The destination is spread out. Belek resorts are large and sit along the coast. A driver who goes to the exact reception saves you a long walk or a second taxi.
- The distance is long. At 178 minutes, comfort matters. You can stretch your legs, stop for a drink and take a toilet break without asking strangers on a bus.
The Drive: What the Road Looks Like
The journey begins in Gelemiş among orange groves and small family pensions. The road leaves the village and climbs onto the Lycian coast. This is pine country. The bends are scented with resin, and the hillsides drop away towards the sea.
Kalkan lies about twenty minutes up the coast from Patara. Its yacht marina and old town are visible from the road. The route then bends away from the village coast and heads towards the Antalya plain.
Along the way you pass the turn-off for the Saklıkent Gorge. This is one of the deepest canyons on the Mediterranean coast. If you want a cool walk through the gorge, tell your driver at booking. The stop adds time, so plan the extra hour or more into your day.
For the second half of the journey, the landscape opens up. The mountains step back and the road runs towards the broad coastal plain around Antalya. Greenhouses, orchards and citrus farms replace the pine slopes. Belek lies on the eastern side of that plain, beyond the city of Antalya.
Typical Time and Busy Time
Use 178 minutes as the driving time for planning. It is a typical figure for the whole route. Real time changes with the hour, the season and the number of stops.
- Early morning and mid-morning. The road is generally quieter. These departures keep close to the 178-minute figure.
- Midday in July and August. Coastal roads are busier with day-trippers, buses and boat-trip traffic. Add a margin.
- Approaching Antalya. The ring roads around a large city are the likely place for slow traffic. This matters more if you arrive in the afternoon rush.
- Evening. Traffic eases, but the light fades on the mountain section. Many guests prefer to cover the winding part in daylight.
A fair rule is to add an hour for a meal stop and a short walk at a viewpoint. The 169 km distance does not change. The time on the clock does.
Leaving Patara: Pick-Up Practicalities
Patara's accommodation is almost entirely small and independent. Guests stay in family-run pensions and hotels rather than chain resorts. We regularly collect guests from Golden Lighthouse Hotel, Ince Hotel, Dardanos Hotel, Delfin, Ferah Otel, Beyoğlu, Apollon, Denge Pansiyon, Golden Pension 3 and Leton Apart Otel. If your place is not on that list, tell us the name when you book. We know the village well enough to find it.
Some practical points for the pick-up:
- Give your driver the exact name of the pension and your mobile number. Several small places share similar names.
- Be ready at the agreed time. The village lanes are narrow, and a waiting car can block a neighbour.
- Settle your accommodation bill the evening before. Breakfast at a pension is often relaxed, and a fast checkout is easier if the bill is already paid.
- Keep passports, documents and anything you need on the road in a day bag, not in the boot.
At busy checkout times in July and August, allow a few extra minutes for the road down through Gelemiş. If your pension is right by the beach, the car may park a short walk away. The driver will help with the luggage either way.
When to Leave
Work backwards from the time you want to arrive. With 178 minutes of driving, add time for stops and a margin for traffic near Antalya.
- To arrive for lunch in Belek: leave Patara in the early morning, after breakfast but before the heat builds.
- To arrive for dinner: leave in the early afternoon. You can spend the morning on the beach or at the ruins.
- To combine a stop: if you add Saklıkent Gorge or a long lunch in Kalkan, move your departure earlier by the same time.
Resort check-in times differ from hotel to hotel. If you arrive early, reception can often store your bags. Ask your hotel in advance rather than assuming.
Before You Go: Make the Most of Patara
If you have a morning free before the transfer, Patara rewards a slow start.
The ancient city sits at the entrance to the beach. Patara was the chief port of the Lycian League. By local tradition, it was the birthplace of Saint Nicholas, around AD 270, before he became Bishop of Myra further along the coast. The Bouleuterion, where Lycian League representatives once gathered, is one reason some historians call Patara an early home of representative government in the region.
Other landmarks near Gelemiş include:
- The Patara Lighthouse, built under Emperor Nero and among the oldest lighthouses ever identified.
- The Roman theatre and the granary of Hadrian.
- The Arch of Mettius Modestus, the old city gate that frames the road into the ruins.
- The rock-cut necropolis on the hillside above the silted-up harbour.
The beach itself is wide, sandy and backed by dunes instead of concrete. It is rarely crowded, even in August. Loggerhead sea turtles come ashore to nest between May and October. A last walk along the sand before the drive is a good way to close the Patara chapter.
Arrival in Belek: Drop-Off and Reception
Belek is a purpose-built holiday area. Most visitors stay in large resorts set back from the road, with long driveways and security gates at the entrance. Your driver goes to the main reception. You do not need to carry bags from a roadside.
A few notes for arrival:
- Give the driver your resort name and, if possible, the exact entrance. Some resorts have separate gates for guests, suppliers and golf.
- Tell the driver if you are going to a villa area or a separate block. Large properties can have several buildings.
- If you travel with golf bags, ask the driver to stop at the lobby first. Staff can often tag and move the bags.
- Check the arrival time against the check-in time of your resort. If you arrive early, you can usually leave luggage and go to the beach or the pool.
Belek's Areas and Who Each Suits
Belek is more than one place. Visitors usually choose between a few parts of the area. The right choice depends on what you want from the holiday.
The Golf-Resort Belt
This is the heart of Belek. Luxury five-star resorts sit between championship courses and the shoreline. Belek is known as Turkey's golf capital, with 14 championship courses and world-class spa facilities at many resorts. This area suits:
- Golfers who want a course within a short walk or buggy ride.
- Couples who want a spa, quiet pools and little need to leave the property.
- Families who prefer a resort where meals, pools and beach are all in one place.
Belek Village and the Centre
The village centre is a small, local base. It gives a different feel from the resort belt. It suits guests who want some shops, a bakery and a place to walk in the evening. It is a good option if you do not want to eat in the same restaurant every night.
Kadriye and Boğazkent
East of the main resort belt lie Kadriye and Boğazkent. These are smaller neighbouring settlements with more relaxed places to eat and a quieter feel. They suit guests who like to sit in a local restaurant. If your hotel is here, tell your driver at booking, because the road to these villages differs from the main resort road.
Beaches and the Shore
Belek has a long sandy shore. The coast is flat and wide, with pine forest behind it. It is very different from the dunes of Patara, but the mood is similar: open sand, clear sea and few high buildings close to the water.
Many resorts have a private beach. These are open to hotel guests, with sunbeds, towels and sometimes a beach bar. If you are staying elsewhere, public beach areas also exist. Ask your hotel which stretch is best for swimming.
The sea temperature reaches about 28°C in August. The swimming season is long. Beach holidays work well from May to October.
The Turtle Link
At Patara, you may have watched the loggerhead turtles nesting. The same species also uses Belek's protected beaches. The conservation story follows you along the coast. If you visit in nesting season, follow the rules posted at the beach. Do not use bright lights at night and keep clear of marked nests. These rules protect eggs and hatchlings.
Golf in Belek
Golf is the reason many guests choose Belek. The area has 14 championship courses. Many players stay for a week or more and move from one course to another.
If you travel with clubs:
- Say so when you book. We will place a vehicle with enough boot space for your bags and your cases.
- Pack the clubs in a hard or well-padded travel bag. The transfer is smooth, but the airline part of your trip may not be.
- If your group is large, book a minivan or a VIP vehicle. A group of four players with bags can need more space than a saloon car offers.
Non-golfers are common in Belek too. The area suits partners and families who want the beach and the pool while others play.
History and Landmarks Near Belek
Belek is not only about modern resorts. Several famous ancient sites are within reach.
- Aspendos. Its Roman theatre is one of the best-preserved in the region and still hosts performances in season. It is a short drive from Belek.
- Side. The ancient theatre of Side and the Temple of Apollo sit on a small peninsula by the sea. Side combines ruins with a lively old harbour.
- Perge. An ancient city of the Pamphylian plain, with a long colonnaded street and a stadium.
- Termessos. A mountain city above Antalya. It is a longer outing but a memorable one.
A private driver can combine these into one day. Tell us at booking, and we can quote the day trip separately from the Patara to Belek transfer.
Day Trips From Belek
Belek is a good base for short outings. The most common ones are:
- Köprülü Canyon. Rafting tours into the canyon start in the wider region and are a popular summer outing.
- Antalya Old Town (Kaleiçi). The harbour, old houses and narrow lanes of Antalya's historic centre are an easy day trip. Many guests come here for an evening walk.
- Manavgat and the Side coast. A river, a waterfall and a long beach lie east of Belek.
- Theme and water parks. The Belek area is known for family attractions such as the Land of Legends theme park.
- Düden waterfalls. Antalya's waterfalls are a green and cool stop in the heat.
Most hotels can arrange tours. If you prefer a private car, we can drive any of these routes and quote the price when you ask.
Food and Evenings
In Patara, dinner is simple and local. Family pensions serve home-style Turkish food, fresh vegetables and fish grilled over charcoal. Evenings are quiet. Most guests sit on a terrace and watch the light fade over the fields.
Belek has a different rhythm. Most resorts run on an all-inclusive model, with several restaurants, buffet breakfasts and evening shows. Guests who stay in the resort belt often eat at the property. If you prefer something different, check whether your resort offers à la carte options.
For a night out, visitors usually go beyond the resorts:
- Belek village and Kadriye have local restaurants with Turkish meze, grilled meats and fresh fish.
- Side and Antalya have more variety in the evening, including waterfront restaurants and old town streets.
Expect to eat later in the evening than at home. In summer, dinner often starts after sunset.
Families and Children
The drive is long for children. A little planning makes it easier.
- Child seats are free. We provide infant seats, child seats and boosters at no charge. Tell us your child's age and weight when you book.
- Plan stops. Children will want a break after the first hour. A short stop at a viewpoint or a roadside café helps.
- Pack snacks and water. Bring what your children usually eat. This reduces waiting at a service stop.
Belek suits families well. The shore is long and the sea entrance is gentle. That suits younger children. After a journey that starts in a quiet village and ends at a family resort, the contrast is part of the pleasure.
Late-Night and Early-Morning Journeys
Some guests travel at unusual hours. A late flight or an early start may shift the plan. Because this is a long route, discuss the time with us before you book.
- Early start. If you need to leave Patara at dawn, tell your pension in advance. Breakfast can be packed or skipped.
- Late arrival. If you reach Belek at night, ask the resort about late check-in before you travel.
- Night driving. The mountain section has bends. Many guests prefer to drive it in daylight. If you must travel at night, your driver will adjust the pace.
- Flight tracking. If you are connecting from an airport, we track your flight. A delayed landing does not change the plan. Your driver waits with a name board at arrivals.
Return Trip and the Airport
Many guests use the same route in reverse. Belek to Patara covers the same 169 km and takes about the same 178 minutes. Plan the return the same way: start from your departure time and work backwards.
If you leave Belek for a flight, the airport is a short drive away. Antalya Airport (AYT) lies west of Belek on the same coast. Check your airline's advice for how early to arrive. Leave time for check-in, baggage drop and security, and add a margin for traffic. A guest who flies in the early morning should leave the resort much earlier than one who flies in the afternoon.
If your holiday started at Dalaman Airport (DLM), note that Dalaman is about 68 km from Patara. That transfer takes roughly an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes, depending on the season and traffic through Kınık. A private transfer from Patara to Dalaman is also available.
For a return from Belek to Patara, your driver will wait at the resort reception. Check out in advance, confirm the pick-up time with reception and be ready at the agreed time.
Seasons: When to Travel
Spring
Spring is mild. Wildflowers cover the hillsides in the Lycian mountains, and the sea is still cool. It is a good time for golf in Belek, because the courses are green and the heat is not yet strong. The drive is pleasant, with fewer tourists on the road.
Summer
Summers are long and hot. The sea is warm and the beaches are at their best. Sea temperature reaches 28°C in August. This is the busy season. Roads are busier, resorts are full and midday heat is strong. Leave early and keep water in the car.
Autumn
Autumn is warm and calmer. The sea holds its heat well into October. This is a favourite season for golfers and for guests who want to avoid the August crowds. The turtle nesting season ends around October, so Patara's beach is quiet again.
Winter
Winters are short and mild. Some small pensions in Patara close or reduce services. Many Belek resorts stay open, and golf continues for guests who like cool, bright days. Check opening dates before you travel. Rain can make the mountain road slow.
What Is Included With Your Transfer
When you book with Turkey Transfer, you travel in a private vehicle for your own party. There is no shared minibus and no stop to pick up other passengers.
- A professional local driver who knows the roads and the pick-up points.
- An air-conditioned vehicle, chosen for your party and luggage.
- Meet-and-greet with a name board at arrivals when you land at an airport.
- Flight tracking, so a delay does not break your plan.
- Free child seats, in infant, child or booster size.
- Space for large luggage, including golf bags, pushchairs and extra cases.
We offer saloon cars, minivans and VIP vehicles. Choose the class that suits your group. For golf parties or large families, a minivan is usually the better choice. Confirm your booking with the price shown on the page, and use WhatsApp if you need to change a detail. We send your driver's details before departure.
A Few Honest Notes
This is a long transfer. Treat it as part of the holiday, not as a chore. Take water, a light jacket for the air-conditioning and a phone charger.
- Tell us about any stops when you book. A planned stop is easier than a change on the road.
- Do not rely on mobile signal in the hills. Save the driver's details before you leave.
- Keep the resort name and address ready, in Latin letters, for the driver.
- If you have a tight flight or a fixed tee time, tell us. We can plan a leaving time that gives you a safe margin.
Patara's ancient stones and Belek's modern comfort are two parts of the same coast. The drive between them takes 178 minutes. Book your private transfer with Turkey Transfer, and let the road be the easy part of your holiday.
