Cruise between Europe and Asia, see Ottoman palaces, fortresses, and the magnificent Istanbul skyline. Pick-up from your Istanbul hotel and the return transfer are arranged for you, so there's no need to find the pier alone. Late-afternoon sailings catch the best light on the waterfront mansions and the strait's two bridges, while mornings are calmer for photos. Bring a windproof layer — the open deck stays breezy even in summer — and keep your camera charged for the palace facades.

The ground truth
162 Sirkeci hotels sit in our pickup index, so your driver gets the entrance, not the district.
Sirkeci is a small, dense quarter on the tip of Istanbul's historic peninsula, right where the Golden Horn meets the Sea of Marmara, immediately next to Eminönü. Its name today is inseparable from one building: Sirkeci Terminal, opened in 1890 as the Istanbul terminus of the legendary Orient Express from Paris. Designed by German architect August Jasmund in an orientalist style, the station still stands, and now houses a small railway museum with a real steam locomotive on display. Sirkeci isn't a beach resort or a marina town — think of it instead as a gateway into old Istanbul: narrow streets lined with old hans (caravanserais), small hotels, jewellers and tea houses, all within walking distance of Eminönü's ferry piers and the domes of Sultanahmet.
Sirkeci's real strength is its location. Almost every major sight in old Istanbul is either walkable or a very short taxi ride away:
Guests often base themselves in Sirkeci for the first night and then use short taxi hops to work through this list without fighting the crowds or the heat on foot.
The name has meant travel for well over a century, and it still does: the T1 tram line runs straight through the district, the Marmaray line's Sirkeci station connects under the Bosphorus to the Asian side, and Eminönü's ferry docks are steps away. That's a real advantage once you're settled in — but landing after a long flight is a different story. Rather than working out trams and transfers with luggage in tow, being met at arrivals and driven straight to your hotel door is worth a lot.
Around Sirkeci we regularly transfer guests to DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Istanbul - Sirkeci, Best Western Empire Palace, Celal Sultan Hotel, Dosso Dossi Hotels, Erboy Hotel and Bosphorus Old City Hotel. Many of these sit on narrow, sometimes pedestrian-only streets in the old peninsula, so our drivers already know the exact drop-off point for each one. Just give us the hotel name when you book, and we handle the rest.
Istanbul Airport (IST) sits northwest of the city, roughly 34 km from Sirkeci. Journey time depends far more on traffic than distance — anywhere from 45 minutes to about 1.5 hours, with late-night arrivals usually the fastest. Your driver waits at arrivals with a name board, tracks your flight, and adjusts if it's delayed. The price is fixed at a fixed fare confirmed at booking — no meter, no surprise extras — door to door from the terminal to your hotel entrance.
Plenty of flights land at Istanbul Airport late at night, and we're set up for exactly that — the service runs 24/7 with no night surcharge. Sirkeci's alleys are busy by day and genuinely calm and safe after dark; if your hotel sits a little off the main street, your driver still takes you to the door rather than dropping you at the corner. Return transfers work the same way — tell us your flight time and we plan the pickup, so you don't have to think about it.
