Ölüdeniz isn't one single strip - it's really a few different places. Right above the beach, within walking distance, sits the quieter, more family-friendly stretch of low-rise boutique hotels and apartments. Up the hill is Ovacık, a busier area packed with hotels and bars, about a 5-10 minute dolmuş ride down to the sand. A little further along, Hisarönü has a lively bazaar and nightlife with generally cheaper rates, around 10-15 minutes from the beach by car. You can spend a full day at the Blue Lagoon - swimming, kayaking, snorkelling - and it's only a short taxi ride from most hotels. For paragliding off Babadağ, you're taken up either by cable car or the tour operator's vehicle, and the landing is right back on Belcekiz Beach, so there's no separate transfer needed for the descent. Kayaköy's abandoned Greek village of Karmylassos, hundreds of stone houses left standing since the 1920s population exchange, is a short taxi ride away and genuinely worth the visit for anyone interested in history. Butterfly Valley is usually reached by boat from Ölüdeniz's small harbour - a taxi drops you at the jetty and the boat does the rest. The Lycian Way long-distance trail also passes through here, so hikers often want a taxi to different trailheads along the route. Fethiye town itself - with its marina, lively fish market, and the rock-cut Lycian tombs above the old town - is about 15 minutes away by taxi.
