Tips From Experience
What Works Well
- Large tatil beldesi hotels in Lara/Belek have the best accessibility — pools with ramps, adapted rooms, plaj wheelchairs
- Özel transfers are significantly easier than taxis — guaranteed vehicle type, trained drivers, predictable
- Morning flights = less crowded airport, faster assistance
- Left side of vehicle — easier for most right-handed wheelchair users to transfer
Common Challenges
- Side Old Town cobblestones — ancient streets are beautiful but very difficult for wheelchairs
- Kemer's terrain — mountainous area with steep approaches to many plajes
- Public transport — NOT wheelchair accessible in Turkey. Özel transfer is essential.
- Regular taxis — NO wheelchair taxis in Turkey. Must pre-book accessible vehicle.
